One question concerning Mason

I saw the movie last night. My expectations were far too high and I ended up being mostly disappointed. However, that aside, I have one question that I have not seen covered here in all of the entertaining threads I have read since last night.

Why did Mason take her teeth out? Can anyone think of ANY reason? My only thought is that she was trying to make herself look weak and pathetic so the tail-enders wouldn't kill her. But to me it just smacked of weirdness for the sake of weirdness.
