Love the film, but a question/goof?

Why did The Terminator run when he crashed the Police car? He knew that he could take those cops out, because he did it thereafter. He had them trapped. Just a minor thing I picked up.

Watched the film again today, I think it's aged well

Not to mention it was hurt toward the end of the film, but attempted no repairs.

This question has been raised ad infinitum on this forum and the real answer plot-wise is that there is no good reason. Period.

People will try to come up with excuses and explanations (it was hurt, it was an infiltration cyborg, etc.), but none of those jive with the basic premise or other events in the film. We are told that it is relentless and that it will not stop until Sarah's dead, and yet it will relent and stop when it has it's prey dead-to-rights basically because the film needs to go on.

People want it to fit and make sense - because they like the movie - but it doesn't.

The arm wasn't really injured, at least not severely. How many arms does it really need to kill humans anyway? The terminator wasn't hurt anymore than Reece and Sarah were, and yet it goes and hides right when they're at their most vulnerable. Wow, how unrelentingly terrifying. As far as the ruined eye - well, apparently it was working well enough so that it could find its way to a bathroom and a place to hide.

Doesn't make any sense. But then it's just a movie.

He's also an infiltration unit that it supposed to "blend in" to society. If he goes after them there, the cops shoot him full of holes and now theres an ABP out on him. Plus as gabby said, he was injured.
