Is Abby a figment of Owen's imagination?

Posted by GForce59

It seems like maybe Abby could be an imaginary friend to Owen. In some parts, it would make sense. It would really make the entire movie even sadder, if it is true.

I don't know, that's just kind of what I thought of. There are things that could prove it wrong and wouldn't make sense if it is the case.

Owen is bullied, has a bad relationship with his parents, and may or may not have an imaginary girlfriend.

"But if she really doesn't exist, it would kind of make sense. No one besides Owen and Thomas seem to acknowledge her presence (and the hospital nurse, but if there is no Abby, is there no Thomas? Therefore making it so the hospital part never even happened.)" - nathanharrs

Also, who attacked Virginia, and why would she just burst into flames coincidentally when the curtains were drawn in the hospital?

I've never really gone for the imaginary friend theory.

That's what I was thinking. There is no Abby at all.

Although it would also make sense if she was somewhat real, as the other guy said. As in, she moves in next door (real), and so on.

But if she really doesn't exist, it would kind of make sense. No one besides Owen and Thomas seem to acknowledge her presence (and the hospital nurse, but if there is no Abby, is there no Thomas? Therefore making it so the hospital part never even happened.)

That's exactly what I was thinking about the pool scene. I've never noticed the rain though. I'll watch it again.

I really like them too much as well, it'd be a shame.
